Meet The Team
Pip Elson
Prior to turning professional in 1972, Pip was Captain of the English Boys team in 1971 and also won the British Youths Championship in 1972. In his first season as a professional he won the Sir Henry Cotton’s rookie of the year title following a 3rd place finish in the Scottish Open at St Andrews and playing all 4 rounds in the Open Championship at Troon. After 10 years as a touring professional he became the club professional at Stratford on Avon Golf Club in 1983. During this time he represented the GB & I club pros team in the PGA Cup against the USA winning 3 out of his 5 matches. He joined the Mentmore Golf and Country Club as Director of Golf in 1991 and following a short spell on the European Seniors Tour in 2004 he joined Burhill as Director of Golf in August of that year.
Michael Evans
Michael Evans is Burhill’s Head Professional and has been with the club since 2004. During his time as a PGA Professional he has worked in many different areas of the golfing industry. These have included the golfing media as an instructor and writer for a variety of golf magazines and instruction books. He has also conducted coaching sessions, incorporating his knowledge of sports psychology, for Sky Sports and the Golf Channel.
Having qualified number one in the country as a PGA Professional Michael has continued to develop his knowledge, regularly attending seminars to ensuire members and guests receive the highest standards available. He has worked with all levels of golfers and understands the difficulties and challenges many amateurs experience, both mentally and technically.
His skills within custom fitting golf equipment have improved the games of many players and he has completed several specialist sessions with the games leading club manufacturers.
As a player Michael was a full time amateur and represented the county at all levels with many competition wins. He continues to play as a Professional within the South Region and in Pro-Am events.
James Winstanley
James Winstanley is Burhill’s Teaching Professional. He has worked at Burhill since 2007 and joined the club as a Cadet Member in 1999, going on to win the Club Championship in his first year. He has won many of Burhill’s Major Club Tournaments and went on to represent the County at all levels.
After a year on the Professional circuit James started his PGA Degree and turned his focus to coaching and custom fitting. He is a qualified Callaway specialist and uses their latest Opti-Fit technology to help you improve your game.
James heads up our Junior Development Programme and has a large client base that he has developed over the years. James remains competitive and is one of the leading players in the South Region and having won 7 events over the last 2 years.
Adam Keable
Adam joined the Burhill Golf Team in 2007 and gained full PGA membership in 2009. He is one of a few PGA professionals to graduate from the Applied Golf Management Studies with a degree from Birmingham University where he gained full honours and recently received a distinction in his Masters.
During his time at Birmingham University he covered many aspects including: golfing strength and conditioning, golf psychology and equipment technology. Using this knowledge Adam likes to take a holistic approach to coaching utilising all areas of the game.
Adam is also heavily involved within our Junior Coaching Programmes, designing them on the latest academic research to train not only the child’s golfing skills but also their motor (balance, speed, strength and stability) skills.
Further to coaching, Adam participates in regional Professional Tournaments and Pro-Am’s.
Wesley Cooper
Wes joined the team at Burhill in December 2010, he has a wealth of knowledge within the equipment and custom fit side of the business. He has been involved in the Surrey Junior Development and actively coaching within local schools. Wes plays in regional Professional Tournaments and completed his PGA Degree in May of 2011.
Michael Pack
Michael joined the team in June 2011 as Assistant Professional, he has extensive knowledge and experience within the retail enviornment. Michael started his PGA training in September 2011 and will develop his skills and to build a successful career.
